Legendary designer and sculptor Harry BERTOIA, who died forty years ago at age 63, devoted the last two decades of his life to the creation of experimental sounding sculptures in the 1960’s and 1970’s. These innovative, interactive, kinetic and tonal works were coined “Sonambient” by the artist.Inspired by nature and activated by humans or wind, they cross the boundaries between the visual and auditory arts and are now getting a new appreciation with a recent exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, an ongoing exhibition at the San Antonio Museum of Art and an upcoming exhibition at the prestigious Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas
